Working with clients on Reedsy

You might have come across my profile on Reedsy, an online marketplace where authors can connect with publishing professionals – from editors and illustrators to marketing pros and translators. I enjoy meeting new clients on Reedsy, and I like how the system is straightforward and easy, especially in terms of receiving briefs, pitching for the work, and setting up and collecting payments. This benefits both me and my clients.

Reedsy does charge a commission to both the vendor and customer, but many of my clients are happy to pay that bit extra for the peace of mind they get from going through a website that will look at disputes and process refunds if appropriate. While I have never had a problem personally in that respect, many authors I speak to express worry about editors not doing the work once they've been paid, or fear that they will simply run the manuscript through a spellchecker! Reedsy helps to allay those fears by checking the professionals before their profiles can go live. I've been impressed with Reedsy's rigorous screening process. My own profile was only approved after a live video call to verify my identity.

Reedsy's customer service is very good, with quick response times from real people. And – most importantly – it has led me to work on a diverse range of exciting books, from a chapter book about sneaky squirrels to a mountain adventure starring a boy and his trusty horse.
